Earlier this month, I was fortunate enough to attend and present at the 2013 North Carolina Society of Public Health Education (NC SOPHE) Conference.

North Carolina is full of passionate public health educators. The conference was a wonderful opportunity to gather everyone under one roof and share recent public health efforts across the Tar Heel state.

Much of the conference, including the keynote address by Dr. Pam Silberman, focused on the Affordable Care Act (ACA) and Health Insurance Marketplace. As it is for most states, the ACA is crucial for helping low-income North Carolinians get the care they need and deserve. Dr. Silberman’s presentation was an ACA 101 — much appreciated for what is in reality a complicated law that can vary widely from state to state.

My conference presentation focused on infographic strategies. Infographics continue to be a useful and popular tool for public health educators. I was proud to share CommunicateHealth’s recent infographic experience.

Until next year, NC SOPHE! Though I do I look forward to seeing some NC SOPHE attendees at the national SOPHE conference in Maryland next spring.
