How do we create a government health website that motivates people to change their behavior?

Since 2007, the CommunicateHealth team has been writing consumer content for healthfinder.gov. The design and content of the site were informed by formative research and usability testing with more than 750 participants, many of whom had limited literacy skills.


  • Develops and maintains content on over 100 health and wellness topics
  • Created the myhealthfinder tool, which delivers tailored preventive services recommendations based on age and sex
  • Assists in the ongoing evaluation and improvement of the site

Kudos: In 2013, healthfinder.gov won the ClearMark award for best plain language public sector website. This was the second ClearMark Award for healthfinder.
